In this contribution, I present an overview of the main theoretical approaches to the relationship between nature and society, the socio-spatial dimension, rurality, and agrarian studies, with the aim of situating the anthropology of territory—particularly indigenous, rural, and agrarian anthropology—in Mexico. I highlight the significance of and relationship with nature, agrarian issues, rural studies, and the organization, subjectivation, and practices of local subjects as central elements in the formation of rural territories intertwined with agrarian regulations and collective and indigenous thought and praxis.
